Plotting of agricultural land illegal

KATHMANDU, Dec 08: The Supreme Court has termed the decision of the government to allow plotting of arable land as illegal.

A joint bench of Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana and justice Dr Manoj Kumar Sharma handed down the decision in this regard on Tuesday.

The decision was announced in response to a writ filed by advocate Santosh Bhandari, among others, calling for an order to stop the government’s decision on land plotting.

The court has already issued a temporary interim order to not implement its decision on September 14.

The government, with the recommendation of Commission of Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), had decided to allow to plotting of arable land, which was itself controversial.

A section of the civil society had criticised the government’s decision and raised finger against Minister of Land Reform Padma Aryal.
