PM Dahal vows to take action if found against law on Ncell row

Kathmandu, Dec 19: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said that share settlement of Ncell Axiata have raised many questions.

Prime Minister Dahal said this while answering the questions raised on the government in the meeting of the State Order and Good Governance Committee of the Parliament on Tuesday.

Stating that if it is against the law of Nepal, government will take action, he assured, “When I was in Dubai for the COP28 conference, I heard about the sale of Ncell shares at a low valuation.  The very next day, I returned to Nepal and called the Chief Secretary and issued a statement about whether our laws and taxes are correct according to the law. I also gave instructions to the Ministry of Communication and the Nepal Telecommunication Authority.”

An investigation committee has been formed under the leadership of former Auditor General Tanka Mani Sharma and the committee has already started its work. The committee has started work by asking for all the details from the Telecommunication Authority, Internal Revenue Office and other agencies. If something has happened against the laws of Nepal, we will take action to the extent, PM Dahal said.

Malaysia’s Axiata Company, which owns 80 percent of Ncell’s shares, recently announced the sale of non-resident Nepali Satish Lal Acharya’s Spectrelite Company based in UK.

After the decision of buying and selling the company was made public, questions were raised saying that this transaction was unreliable. It is suspected that there may be a collusion of high political leadership in the case of share purchase and sale.
