Police nabs Chinese and Nepalis involved in call bypass, seizes 3700 SIMs



Kathmandu, June 7: Two people have been arrested after it was found that the Chinese and Nepalese were illegally bypassing telephone calls. According to the Central Investigation Bureau of Police (CIB), they were arrested and investigated for being involved in illegal international voice call/SMS bypass (VOIP) in Mahalakshmi Municipality-5 Tikathali Kharibot of Lalitpur.

According to Sanjay Singh Thapa, Superintendent of Police of the Bureau, those arrested are Chinese national ZHAO JIANGPENG, 32, and Ganesh Shrestha, 22, resident of Sindhupalchok Tripurasundari, Kathmandu Metropolitan Municipality-16 Sohrakhutte.

Police deputed from Central Bureau of Investigation Maharajgunj had been searching for a few days based on a secret information that illegal suspicious activity was going on in Tikathali Kharibot of Lalitpur Mahalakshmi Municipality-5.

At the same time, they were arrested while renting a house in Kharibot and illegally bypassing calls and SMS. A large quantity of SIM cards and other illegal devices, Nepali rupees and currency of different countries were recovered from them.

Nearly 3,700 Ncell SIM cards have been recovered from them. Similarly, around five lakh Nepali rupees and dollars from different countries have also been seized. Under the Telecommunication Act, 2053, more investigation is being done on them with permission from the Lalitpur District Court today.
