Butwal: A pregnant woman who was found infected with coronavirus in Butwal and referred to the Kohalpur Medical College has been undergone operation today.
A team including a gynecologist at Medical College conducted the operation after she felt labour pain.
A 28-year-old woman from Butwal sub-metropolis-11 was earlier denied admission by the Lumbini State Hospital after she was found infected with coronavirus.
She was then taken to Banke for treatment. A baby girl was born at 9:30am.
The new born weighed 2-kg and her health condition is normal, according to Dinesh Shrestha, Deputy Director at the Medical College.
“The health condition of both mother and new born is normal. Test on the baby girl would be conducted to ascertain whether she has been infected. It is the fourth operation conducted on the COVID-19 infected woman in the Medical College,” he added.
After the Butwal hospital denied service citing the reason of coronavirus, the human rights defenders were agitated. The Minister for Social Development in State-5 was made aware of woman rights, the right to health service in crisis.
The rights defenders had pressed the Minister to take initiative to immediately provide health service to the pregnant woman. Her relatives were also panicked after no side had extended support in the beginning.
Although the Ministry had informed that treatment and operation of the pregnant women infected with coronavirus was arranged at Bhim Hospital of Bhairahawa, the Bhim Hospital made it clear that it had not conducted operation yet.
