President election: Meeting of three parties inconclusive

Kathmandu, Feb 23: The discussion between the leaders of CPN (Maoist Centre), CPN (Unified Socialist) and Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) on the issue of presidential candidacy has ended with no conclusion.

Leader of CPN (Unified Socialist) Prakash Jwala informed that there was a discussion about making the president on the basis of national consensus, but the meeting did not reach a conclusion.

He said, “We have discussed on several options regarding the presidential election. We proposed for party Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal as the presidential candidate, but nothing has been decided.” He said that there was also a discussion about forming a left-socialist front.

The leaders of CPN (Maoist Centre), CPN (Unified Socialist) and Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) have held a meeting at Singhdurbar on Thursday evening to discuss the presidential issues. Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ from Maoist Centre, leaders Narayankaji Shrestha, Janardan Sharma and Shakti Basnet, Chairman Nepal from United Socialist Party, leaders Beduram Bhusal, Ghanshyam Bhusal and Pramesh Hamal and Chairman Upendra Yadav and leader Rajendra Shrestha from JSP participated in the meeting.

Earlier today, JSP Chairman Yadav had a meeting with Prime Minister Dahal and top leaders of the Maoist Centre regarding the election of the Vice President.

The Election Commission has scheduled the registration of presidential nominations on Saturday and the presidential election on March 9. As the presidential election is approaching, the top leaders of the political parties have intensified their meetings.

CPN (Maoist Centre), which has the decisive vote in the presidential election, is seeking a national consensus, while other parties have been saying that they have their own party’s claim.
