Kathmandu, April 4: President Ram Chandra Paudel has extended greetings to all on the occasion of 2622nd birth anniversary of Mahavir, the founder of Jainism.
In his message, the President has said that Mahavir practised the highest form of restraint and non-violence, adding that national unity could be strengthened by ensuring tolerance and goodwill among religious, social and cultural diversities if we could follow the guiding principles of Mahavir.
The birth anniversary of Mahavir is marked by the Jain communities on the day of Chait Shukla Trayodashi every year with various programmes by the followers of the Jain religion from all over the world including Nepal.
Mahavir formulated five paths of salvation – truth, non-violence, celibacy, infallibility, and non-aggression, and he himself followed these principles.
In his message, the President has said that may this day shall inspire all of all to take inspiration for performing a leading role in making a cultured and civilized society by ending all sorts of ill-practices and discrimination prevalent in the society.
