Proposal seeking consideration on Cooperatives (First Amendment) Bill approved

Kathmandu, June 28: The second meeting of the National Assembly today approved a proposal seeking consideration on the ‘Cooperatives (First Amendment) Bill, 2083’ by a majority.

The proposal on the bill, which was brought to replace the ordinance, was approved after a theoretical discussion and was submitted for a decision. MPs who want to amend the bill have been urged to submit a proposal to the Bill Branch of the Federal Parliament.

Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives, Federal Affairs and General Administration Pratibha Rawal had presented the proposal to consider the bill.

Responding to questions raised during the discussion, Minister Rawal said that the bill has been brought to make the cooperative sector systematic and effective and to return the money of the victims from the cooperatives. She said that the government is determined to solve the cooperative problem in a real way and informed that a revolving relief fund has been set up as per the plan of the previous government.

MPs Narendra Kumar Kerung, Ashok Kumar Chaudhary, Samiksha Baskota, Basna Thapa, Gangalakshmi Awal, Khadga Bahadur Shahi, Harimohan Bhandari, Ganesh Bahadur Bishwakarma, Balawati Sharma, Badan Kumar Bhandari, Sajida Khatun Siddiqui participated in the discussion.

The MPs said that cooperatives should be established as a pillar of economic transformation and should be systematic and transparent.

They stressed the need for legal amendments to provide relief and compensation to the victims in a context where people who depend on daily livelihoods to survive due to cooperative fraud are being victimized.

Urging not to hesitate taking action against anyone who cheats cooperatives, they also demanded an end to the trend of bringing bills through ordinances by prorogating the ongoing parliament. #nepal #rss
