Surkhet: Raj Kumar Sharma of CPN-Maoist Center has been appointed as the Chief Minister of Karnali Province. He was appointed as the chief minister by the state chief Tilak Pariyar.
In the 40-member Karnali Provicial Assembly, 21 MPs are required for a majority. Sharma has the support of 25 MPs including Maoist Center, UML, RPP, and CPN (Unified Socialist) for the appointment of Chief Minister.
According to the agreement, it has been agreed that Sharma will lead Karnali for 2 and a half years in the first phase and Yam Lal Kandel of CPN UML will lead in the second phase. Sharma, who is a member of the Maoist Politburo, was elected from Rukum Paschim District.
Sharma will take oath of office and secrecy on Thursday.
The largest party in Karnali is Nepali Congress with 14 MPs, Maoist Center with 13, CPN-UML with 10, and one each from RPP, CPN (Unified Socialist) and Independent.
