Surkhet, Jan 15: The procedural work for reconstruction of quake-damaged houses in Jajarkot and adjoining districts has begun from today, 14 months after the massive quake.
The recent 16th meeting of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority’s (NDRRMA)’s National Council decided to take forward the reconstruction process in the quake- affected districts such as Jajarkot, Rukum Paschim, Salyan and Doti.
As per the meeting’s decision, an agreement with the beneficiaries will be signed starting from today to begin the reconstruction process. The meeting had also approved a comprehensive plan for post disaster reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts, said NDRRMA’s Spokesperson Dr Dijan Bhattarai.
The concerned agency will begin conducting the Detail Damage Report (DDR) of the remaining disaster-hit areas from today that had not yet undergone this process, said Dr Bhattarai.
While reconstruction process will start in Doti district from today, the DDR of places across Jajarkot will be accelerated, he informed.
The beneficiaries in Terai region whose houses were damaged by disasters will receive Rs 400,000, those in hilly areas will get Rs 500,000 and those in mountainous region will avail Rs 600,000 grant assistance for reconstruction.
A massive earthquake with epicenter at Ramidanda of Jajarkot in November 3, 2023 had claimed 154 lives in Jajarkot and Rukum Paschim. The quake had damaged 48,516 houses in Jajarkot, 34,997 houses in Rukum Paschim and 4,407 houses in Salyan district.
Likewise, as many as 400 school buildings, 50 healthcare centres, 20 police posts and 23 public offices had received damages in the quake, according to the District Administration Office, Jajarkot. #earthquake #nepal #jajarkot
