Red Panda Marathon: Gajendra and Nirmala win title



Ilam, Dec 16: Gajendra Rai under men’s category and Nirmala Rai under women’s category have won the title of ‘Red Panda Marathon’ organised in Ilam today with an objective of promoting tourism.

Gajendra became the winner of the marathon by completing the 44.2-kilometer distance from Chowk bazaar (1,120 meters height) of Ilam to Sandakpurdanda (3,610 meters height) in four hours 12 minutes and 10 seconds. He bagged Rs 150,000 as a prize.

Similarly, Nirmala completed the distance in five hours 20 minutes and 36 seconds. She also received Rs 150,000.

Karan Rawal, Karna Bahadur Roka and Shreekas Rai became first runner-up, second runner-up and third runner-up of the marathon and they received Rs 100,000, Rs 50,000 and Rs 30,000 respectively.

All the winners are from the Tribhuvan Army Club, said Programme Director of Deep Jyoti Youth Club, Ram Rimal.

Under the women’s category, Sunsari Rokaya became first runner-up by completing the distance in five hours 40 minutes and 39 seconds. She got Rs 100,000. Similarly, Kalpana Budha and Rajya Laxmi Shakya secured second runner-up and third runner-up position and received Rs 50,000 and Rs 30,000 respectively.

Likewise, Rajendra Myangbo won the title under local category and got Rs 25,000 as prize. Bishal Rai, Ramesh Limbu and Tanka Ale Magar became first runner-up, second runner-up and third runner-up and received Rs 20,000, Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively.

Total 62 men and 11 women runners from Nepal Army, Armed Police Force, Nepal Police and India had participated in the marathon. The marathon was organised by Deep Jyoti Youth Club with the support of Red Panda Network, Sandakpur rural municipality and Ilam municipality. #nepal #redpanda #marathon
