Rohit and Karan set record, Nepal’s historic win against Scotland



Kathmandu, Feb 21: Under the ICC World Cup League-2 triangular ODI series, home team Nepal has won all four matches. Nepal defeated Scotland by two wickets in their last match at TU Cricket ground in Kirtipur on Tuesday. Chasing a winning target of 213 runs for victory, Nepal finished losing 8 wickets in 44.1 overs.

Captain Rohit Poudel remained unbeaten on 95 runs for Nepal. Rohit, who played 101 balls, hit 7 fours and 4 sixes.

Similarly, Karan KC remained unbeaten on 31 runs off 37 balls. Similarly, Gyanendra Malla added 21 runs and Aasif Sheikh returned to the pavilion with 12 runs.

Scotland’s Mark Watt took three wickets, Chris Greaves took two and Safyaan Sharif, Michael Leask and Brendon McMullen took one each. Before that, Scotland lost the toss and went into bat and scored 212 runs in 46.1 overs. For Scotland, George Munsey top scored 60 runs off 50 balls, Matthew Cross scored 42 off 63 balls, Brandon McMullen scored 31 runs off 48 balls. Similarly, Christopher McBride scored 22 runs off 30 balls while Kyle Coetzer scored 22 runs off 23 balls.

For Nepal, leg spinner Sandeep Lamichhane took four wickets, Karan KC took three wickets and Kushal Malla and Lalit Rajbanshi took one wicket each. Similarly, Scotland’s Matthew Cross was run out. He was dismissed by Dipendra Singh Airee.

Starting from 2019, Nepal became the first team to get 100 percent results in a tri-nation series held at its home ground in the ICC World Cup League 2, and for the first time in its history of ODI cricket, it was successful in winning four matches in a row.

On the other hand, Nepal has also become the first team to defeat Scotland in two consecutive matches in the complete series of World Cup League 2.

With this result, Scotland ended League 2 with 50 points from 36 games with 24 wins and 10 losses. Oman is second with 44 points from 36 matches with 21 wins and 13 losses.

Namibia is on third position with 37 points after 18 wins and 15 losses out of 34 matches, while America is fourth with 35 points after 16 wins and 17 losses out of 36 matches. Similarly, UAE is in fifth place with 27 points with 12 wins and 11 losses in 26 matches, while Nepal is in sixth position with 26 points with 12 wins and 14 losses in 28 matches.

Papua New Guinea is at the bottom with 2 wins and 25 losses in 28 matches. The top three teams will directly play for the global qualifiers. According to which, Oman and Scotland directly qualified for the World Cup. The remaining four teams will have to play in the playoffs.
