RSP demands full investigation of gold smuggling case

Kathmandu, July 26: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has demanded to full investigation on recent gold smuggling case. The RSP has also pointed to speed up the discussion in parliament floor instead of abrupt obstruction or closure of the House.

In recent times, the main opposition CPN (UML) has been demanding resignation of Prime Minister over the issue of a speech delivered by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal in a book launching program and recently the resignation of Home Minister over the gold smuggling case.

Disagreeing with the resignation and obstruction efforts regarding the incident related to the 100 kg gold smuggling that was taken out of the airport recently, the RSP has submitted a resolution proposal to the Speaker for a fair investigation.

MP Manish Jha informed that they have met the Speaker Dev Raj Ghimire and demanded a complete and fair investigation of the latest incident related to gold, using the parliamentary system and the parliamentary rights given by the constitution, instead of protesting for the sake of protest in the federal parliament.

Presenting the resolution proposed by the party before the Speaker, MPs including Chairman Rabi Lamichhane demanded a fair and complete investigation. He said, “We believe that we should proceed with mature democratic parliamentary practice and we have registered a resolution proposal for that.”

MP Jha informed that the resolution proposal has the signatures of all the MPs of the party and the proposal has been registered at the Federal Parliament Secretariat. Under the rules of the House of Representatives, any member can submit a resolution to express an opinion or recommendation of public importance, to draw attention to support or oppose or reconsider any action or policy of the government, and to give any message or instruction.

If the Speaker deems it appropriate and necessary, he can also give a disapproval to submit a resolution proposal on any other subject. MP Jha said that after RSP Chairman Lamichhane explained the purpose, necessity and rationale of the resolution proposal, the Speaker suggested that it be registered in the secretariat and informed to the Minister of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.

MP Jha informed that the Speaker has promised to proceed as soon as possible, stating that he has taken the process of the proposal brought by requesting for discussion as a positive political practice.
