RSP Whip Pariyar urges govt to ensure environment conducive to fear-free journalism

Kathmandu, July 14: Ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker and party Whip Prakash Chandra Pariyar has urged the government to ensure a safe and fear-free environment for journalists and media organisations, describing journalism as the backbone of democracy.

Speaking during the special hour of Tuesday’s meeting of the House of Representatives, Pariyar said the RSP has consistently stood in support of democracy, the rule of law and full press freedom.

He stressed that while the party firmly supports media freedom, journalists and media institutions also have a responsibility to uphold professional and responsible journalism.

During the same meeting, MP Yubaraj Dulal, speaking on behalf of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) parliamentary party, urged the government to take immediate measures to control inflation, black marketing and the activities of middlemen to provide relief to the public.

Dulal said government policies and programmes should be more people-centred and called for stronger efforts to promote good governance.

He also urged the government to resolve the problems faced by displaced squatters, including improving conditions at temporary holding centres and finding a sustainable solution to the issue as soon as possible. #nepal
