
Rukum, Feb 3: Farmers in Rukum West have earned nearly Rs 4 million from honey sales this year. According to District Agriculture Development Office spokesperson Lal Bahadur Bhandari, four metric tons of honey was produced and sold between Shrawan 1 and Poush-end, 2081 BS.
The price of honey ranges from Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,200 per kilogram in Rukum. The highest production areas include Bafikot Rural Municipality and Aathbishkot Municipality, with additional honey production in Sanibheri and Triveni Rural Municipalities, as well as Musikot and Chaurjahari Municipalities.
Around 150 to 200 farmers are engaged in beekeeping in the district. While some farmers produce honey for personal use, over 150 farmers practice beekeeping commercially.
The honey produced in the district is sold in local markets such as Khalanga, Solawang, and Chaurjahari, as well as in outside districts including Surkhet, Dang, Nepalgunj, and Kathmandu. During the peak season, each farmer earns between Rs 5,000 and Rs 300,000 from honey sales, according to spokesperson Bhandari. #honey #nepal #rukum
