SAFF Championship: Nepal defeated by Kuwait



Kathmandu, June 21: Nepal has lost its first match of the 14th Men’s SAFF Championship 2023.

In the opening match held today at Kantirao Stadium in India, Nepal lost to Kuwait by 1-3 goals. Captain Khalid Hajih, Shabaib Alkhaldi and Mohammad Abdullah scored one goal each in Kuwait’s victory.

In the 23rd minute of the game, Captain Khalid scored a header while Shabaib scored in the 42nd minute. In the 65th minute of the game, Mohammad scored a penalty to give Kuwait a 3-0 lead.

Meanwhile, Nepal scored a consolation goal in the 68th minute of the game through Anjan Bista

Eight different countries are participating in the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Championship. Along with Nepal, other countries taking part are India, Bangladesh, Kuwait, Lebanon, Bhutan, Pakistan and the Maldives.

Nepal will play its second match against host India on coming Saturday.
