
Kathmandu, March 19: The first meeting of the Steering Committee for the ‘Sagarmatha Sambaad’ (Sagarmatha Dialogue) concluded here today under the chair of KP Sharma Oli. The event has been scheduled to take place on May 16-18.
During the meeting that was held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, matters regarding the event management, invitations to foreign guests and dignitaries, the participation of experts, appointment of goodwill ambassador and the cooperation with the private sector were discussed.
The Prime Minister hoped for support, cooperation and participation from all quarters to make the event a grand success. “The preparations for the Dialogue be flawless from each aspects.”
The Sagarmatha Dialogue Secretariat has been already established at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers.
The Prime Minister chairs the Steering Committee while Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Arzu Deuba and Minister for Forest and Environment Ain Bahadur Shahi Thauri chairs and co-chairs the Management Committee respectively.
The head of the state and the head of the government from neighbouring countries including India and China have been invited to the event as special guests.
The Dialogue will be centered on climate change and the future of mountains and human life. This is the first tyme of event that the government is hosting.
Earlier on January 21, the Prime Minister Oli had announced to organise the Sagarmatha Dialogue in the given date on the occasion of the International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation.
