Kathmandu, May 15: Cricketer and former captain of Nepali national team Sandeep Lamichhane has been cleared in the rape case.

Spokesman at the Patan High Court Mr Bimal Parajuli informed that Sandeep was cleared by reversing the judgment of Kathmandu District Court by the joint bench of High Court, Patan Judges Sudarshan Dev Bhatta and Anju Upreti Dhakal.

The District Court of Kathmandu found Lamichhane guilty of rape on Poush 13, 2080 BS and sentenced him to 8 years in prison.

However, Lamichhane had appealed in the Patan High Court denying the rape allegation.

Many well-wishers of Sandeep had gathered around the Patan High Court area today waiting for his release from the case. They were shouting against the allegations.

After the verdict, he may join the Nepali team who are in USA to play for T20 World Cup Cricket.
