At Uniglobe SS/College in Kamaladi, Kathmandu, Action for Nation arranged a one-day self-defense training. Silvio Simac, a Hollywood actor, Taekwondo instructor, and fitness coach, was the program’s main guest. Master Giri Bahadur Sunar, the pioneer of girls and women self-defense instruction in Nepal, had shared the platform with Mr. Simac. Since 1998, Master Sunar has been teaching girls self-defense in Nepal. In Nepal, he performed over a hundred training sessions in various locations. He has written for major English national newspapers as a columnist on girls’ and women’s self-defense concerns, as well as publishing journal articles on the issue. Master Sunar himself a five degree black-belt in Taekwondo WTF.
Silvio is a world champion martial artist and Hollywood actor. Silvio Simac was born in the Croatian city of Zadar. Silvio was a passionate martial artist who competed in Taekwondo and became a world champion during his time there. In 2001, he made his cinematic debut in an episode of Lexx (1996). Silvio’s training in martial arts helped him land a role in the action film Undisputed 2: Last Man Standing (2006). In the film’s opening moments, he got the honor of battling Scott Adkins. Silvio also appears in the video game-turned-action film DOD: Dead or Alive as Leon, a warrior (2006). The high-octane action picture Transporter 3 was his next big cinematic effort (2008). Silvio likes working out, traveling, cooking, and even shopping when he is not performing. Silvio also appreciates Italian cuisine and is always up for a new experience.
The Self-Defense program’s goal was to minimize the rising number of cases of gender-based violence in Nepal. Self-defense training aims to promote girls’ and women’s confidence while also improving their physical and emotional health. Mental awareness is more vital and effective than physical self-defense, the training program concentrated more on psychological empowerment of girls than physical self-defense. A total of 100 girls took part in the training session. The majority of the participants were professionally air hostages, students from government and private schools, and private businesses firms.
Master Sunar taught awareness self-defense, verbal self-defense, false surrender self-defense, and legal self-defense, while Master Silvio taught physical self-defense in tandem with Master Sunar. During the training, participants learned how to raise the issue of any abuse, how to respond quickly, how to file a complaint with the local level or the police, and even how to retaliate physically. In addition, information on the legal implications of such instances will be provided.
Master Silvio remarked that the training would be critical in the creation of a society free of violence, and that such training would necessitate further efforts to boost the ladies’ self-esteem. “I am thrilled to be in Nepal’s Himalayan nation, and it is an honor to share a self-defense stage with master Giri Bahadur Sunar.” Master Sunar had conducted extensive study on girls’ self-defense training and was proud of his psychological empowering ability to girls and women. “Nepal is a great country with lovely people who are kind and friendly.”
“We must not forget that the police cannot be everywhere in twenty-four hours,” Master Sunar stated. Neither the abused survivor’s father, brother, spouse, nor the fabled Lord Krishna will emerge to protect girls in their time of need. Therefore, they must prepare for it. According to the Nepal police headquarter report, approximately 227 women were forcibly raped, 40 rape attempts were registered, 72 polygamy marriages occurred, 3 child marriage complaints were recorded, 3 illegal abortions, 3 unnatural intercourse, 28 child sex abuse, 1 human trafficking, 3 kidnappings, and 2745 domestic violence incidents occurred within the valley during fiscal year 2077/078 (2020/2021). In total 18961 women and child abuse cases were registered in seven provinces during 2020/2021 fiscal year (province no-1: 2340, Madhesh province: 4280, Bagmati province: 1674, Gandaki province:1597, Lumbini province: 3105, Karnali province: 1206 and Sudurpaschim province: 3127).
