KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court Bar Association has nominated two senior advocates on Friday for the amicus curiae sought by the Supreme Court in its writ petition on the dissolution of Parliament.
According to Supreme Court Bar Association, senior advocates Khagendra Prasad Adhikari and Purnaman Shakya were nominated for the hearing.
Adhikari is the current chairman of the Supreme Court Bar Association while Shakya has recently been elected for a new term.
In the writ filed against the dissolution of the parliament, the Constitutional Court of the Supreme Court had demanded three amicus curiae from the Nepal Bar Association and two amicus curiae from the Supreme Court Bar Association.
It is customary for a court to ask for amicus curiae for advice on any important matter. Amicus curiae are also called court friends. The Amicus Curiae will give its opinion on the matter sought by the court on the basis of the Constitution, the law and its discretion.
Nepal Bar Association has selected senior advocates Badri Bahadur Karki, Satish Krishna Kharel and Bijay Kant Mainali as amicus curiae.
The Supreme Court has fixed January 6 for the hearing on the writ petition related to the dissolution of the parliament.
