Shantidham, a unique center of religious tourism (Photo feature)



Kathmandu, Aug 10: The Shantidham located in Tarakeshwar, the northern side of Kathmandu, is developing as a center of religious tourism.

In the year 2068 BS, after the registration of ‘Shantidham’ for the purpose of building a Chardham temple in Tarakeshwar Municipality-2 Kavresthali, religious devotees started to flock after the construction of Lord Badri Narayan temple.

The foundation stone was laid on Nirjala Ekadashi of 2073 BS and the construction was completed on Ram Nawami 2075 BS. More than five hundred pilgrims come daily to visit Badri Narayan Temple. Similarly, on holidays, 3,000 to 5,000 pilgrims come to visit this temple.

The temple, which opens in the morning and in the evening, has been closed from 12 noon to 3 PM. The temple of Badri Narayan, which was completed at a cost of Rs 150 million, was built in the Dravidian Shikhar style. The temple is artistic and beautiful.
