Shekhar Koirala accuses Rabi of embezzling cooperative funds

Kathmandu, Feb 22: Nepali Congress leader Dr Shekhar Koirala has accused Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane of embezzling cooperative funds, insisting that he should face legal consequences.

Speaking at a tea reception organized in honor of Democratic Fighters’ Association representatives in Kathmandu on Saturday, Koirala claimed there was no doubt about Rabi’s involvement in the cooperative fund misappropriation case. However, he also criticized the government for violating human rights in handling the case, arguing that the authorities should not evade responsibility for ensuring justice.

“A true Congress member must understand human rights. Lamichhane has committed fraud and must be punished. But there is a legal process for that. Why was he taken to Pokhara overnight? If the police and the Home Ministry claim they cannot provide protection, then why was he taken to Chitwan instead? That is the real question,” Koirala argued.

Koirala also expressed concern over the weakening state of the Nepali Congress, criticizing the uncertainty surrounding the party’s upcoming general convention. He urged party members and supporters to pressure leadership through social media to ensure the timely organization of the convention.

“The Nepali Congress is becoming weaker. There is no clear decision on when our general convention will be held. They say it will be after the 2084 BS general elections. You must pressure the leadership to conduct the convention on time. Use social media to raise awareness,” he stated.

Additionally, Koirala warned about the increasing influence of the CPN-UML within the state apparatus, urging vigilance to prevent further political imbalance.

“I am seriously concerned about the state being gradually taken over by UML. Even the government seems to be leaning towards UML control. We must find a way to counter this. Ministers may talk about cooperation, but we must remain alert. Only through constant vigilance can we keep our ministers and UML in check,” he added. #NewsAgencyNepal #nepal #Shekhar #NepaliCongress
