KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress leader Sirjana Singh has registered her candidature for the post of Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City on behalf of the five party ruling coalition.
She reached the office of the Chief Electoral Officer at the National City Hall today and registered his candidature for the post.
Incumbent Deputy Mayor Hari Prabha Khadgi was the proposer of her candidature and Nilkaji Shakya was the supporter. Sirjana Singh is the wife of senior leader of Nepali Congress Prakash Man Singh.
Giving feedback after registering her candidature, Singh said that she would arrange allowances for housewives in the metropolis, provide free healthcare, build a women-friendly Kathmandu and provide employment-oriented training to the women and youth.
Today, Rameshwar Shrestha of the CPN (Unified Socialist) has also registered his candidature for the post of Deputy Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City on behalf of the coalition.
Likewise, Keshav Sthapit and Sunita Dangol registered their candidature as Mayor and Deputy Mayor from CPN (UML) today itself.
In the previous election, CPN UML’s Bidya Sundar Shakya was elected as the Mayor and Hari Prabha Khadgi from Nepali Congress was the Deputy Mayor.
