Six killed, four go missing in Doramba landslide

Ramechhap, Aug 25: Six persons died and four others have gone missing when landslide buried three houses at Shailung rural municipality-3 in Doramba on Saturday night.

The deceased have been identified as Chandika Shrestha, 30, her 18-month-old son Ayush, Urmila Pahari, 57, Sandeep Pahari, 30, Santosh Pahari, 11 and Bigyan Pahari, 14, according to the District Police Office.

Four other people have gone missing. Police said that Kale Pahari, 55, Jhaipuri Pahari, 50, Pudki Pahari, 65 and Binda Pahari, 21 have gone missing.

Similarly, Anjana Shrestha, 11, was injured in the incident. The landslide had occurred on Saturday night, said vice-chairperson of the rural municipality, Khamala Thapa Magar.

Deputy Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office, Ramechhap, Pradeep Kumar Singh, said locals, police personnel and Nepal Army personnel carried out rscue and search operation soon after getting information about the incident.

The flood also washed away a bridge of Andheri rivulet located at the border of ward no 2 and 3.

The Shailung Rural Municipality and local administration has shifted 65 households in secure places. The Chair of the Shailung Municipality Main Kumar Motan has informed that a total of 180 people have been taking shelter at Kantheswor Secondary School and Municipality building for temporary purpose.

State Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Mr Purna Bahadur Tamang have inspected the landslide sites and instructed to local administration to shift the people in safe places.

He also distributed Rs 10,000 each for the families who lost their loved ones. #landslide
