Sixteen injured in Tundikhel stampede



Kathmandu, Jan 15: As many as 16 people were injured in a stampede at Tundikhel in Kathmandu today.

The stampede took place in separate programmes organized by the Magar and Tharu communities at the venue organized to observe Maghe Sankranti, the first day of the Nepali month of Magh as per the lunar calendar, according to the District Police Range, Kathmandu.

Spokesperson of the Range and Superintendent of Police (SP) Kumud Dhungel said, “A large number of people from Magar and Tharu communities had convened at Tundikhel to observe Maghi festival. Eight people were injured when the stampede occurred all of a sudden.”

SP Dhungel shared that the stampede happened when the people entering the venue and exiting from there jostled at the entrance all of a sudden. The injured ones have been admitted to the Trauma Centre at Bir Hospital, police said.
