Speaker Ghimire, leaders Dahal, Nepal pay tributes to the late Dhungana

Kathmandu, Nov 18: Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR) Devraj Ghimire today visited Sano Gaucharan in Gyaneshwor to pay tribute to former Speaker Damannath Dhungana, who passed away on Sunday.

Extending his condolences, Speaker Ghimire highlighted Dhungana’s significant contribution to strengthening Nepal’s parliamentary system, stating that he had become an inspiring figure in the country’s parliamentary history. He stressed the need to acknowledge Dhungana’s contributions and translate them into meaningful action.

Meanwhile, former Prime Ministers Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda,’ and Madhav Kumar Nepal, also visited Sano Gaucharan to pay their last respects to the late Dhungana.
“Dhungana along with Padmaratna Tuladhar had pivotal roles in creating the environment for the peace agreement and the formation of the Constituent Assembly, which led to the establishment of a democratic republic in Nepal,” Dahal, CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairperson, said.

CPN (Unified Socialist) Chairperson Nepal, recalling Dhungana’s involvement in the 1990 People’s Movement, remembered him as a courageous democratic fighter. He said that Dhungana believed in the Parliament’s role as a platform for the opposition and was dedicated to amplifying the voice of the people through the institution.

As of the time of this report, Dhungana’s funeral procession was on its way to Pashupati Aryaghat, where his last rites are scheduled to take place today itself. RSS #Nepal
