
Kathmandu, March 3: Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Ramnath Adhikari, has urged the Japanese government to support for the establishment of high-standard dairy processing centre in Kathmandu.
Minister Adhikari made this request during the meeting with Japanese Ambassador to Nepal, Maeda Toru, at the ministry in Singha Durbar today. Stating that though Nepal has achieved much progress in dairy sector, he argued that there is a need of processing centre.
Minister Adhikari lauded the significant support of Japan in development of Nepal’s agriculture sector and said Nepal has expected additional support for modernization of agriculture in coming days.
“The growth in production by Japan using technology and achievement made in overall agriculture due to this is significant. Nepal and Japan can made collaboration for technical knowledge as Nepal has to learn from Japan in this regard. Japanese volunteers have now been supporting through different offices under the ministry. Nepal has got opportunity to learn about Japan’s well-known agriculture practices,” he shared.
Mentioning that the government has a policy to bring in investment by announcing investment decade in agriculture, the Agriculture Minister urged the Japanese Ambassador to facilitate for investment in Nepal.
As Nepal and Japan are celebrating 70th year of establishment of diplomatic relations next year, Minister Adhikari expressed the belief that Japanese support would be further increased.
Similarly, Japanese Ambassador Toru said the support Japanese government has been providing in agriculture sector would be continued as there are immense potentials in Nepal’s agro sector. He expressed commitment to carry out study about further possibility of support in coming days.
The Japanese Ambassador shared that Japan has been giving importance to the use of equipment in development of agriculture sector, stressing that Nepal should adopt modernization in agriculture. There could be collaboration between Nepal and Japan to export Nepal’s tea and herbal products as Japan has good market for these, he added.
