Surya Silwal takes oath of Chairperson of Beema Samiti at Ministry of Finance

KATHMANDU: Minister for Finance Bishnu Prasad Poudel has instructed the new leadership of the Beema Samiti (Insurance Regulatory Authority of Nepal) to come out honestly to solve the problems in the insurance sector and prove its tenure as a milestone for the insurance sector.

At the swearing-in ceremony of the newly-appointed chairperson of the Insurance Board on Thursday, Finance Minister Poudel directed to examine the problems in the insurance sector and said that the Ministry of Finance would provide assistance, facilitation and coordination to solve the problems.

Finance Secretary Shishir Kumar Dhungana stressed on the need for the insurance sector to maintain credibility and make the insurance sector strong, capable and competitive.

The newly appointed chairman of the Beema Samiti, Surya Prasad Silwal, expressed his commitment to work hard for the betterment of the insurance sector. He informed that he will enter the policy area by solving the immediate problems.

Finance Secretary Shishir Kumar Dhungana administered the oath of office and secrecy to the newly appointed chairman of the Beema Samiti Silwal at a program organized at the Ministry of Finance.

According to Beema Samiti, there are 40 insurance companies in Nepal in which 19 are life, 20 non-life and 1 re-insurance companies.

Beema Samiti (Insurance Board) is the Insurance Regulatory Authority of Nepal which is constituted to systematize, regularize, develop and regulate the insurance business within the country under Insurance Act, 1992.
