Kathmandu, June 15: The Swiss Ambassador to Nepal, Dr Danielle Meuwly, met with Minister for Education and Sports, Sasmit Pokharel, today.
Issues related to the ongoing collaboration between Switzerland and Nepal in the education sector were discussed in the meeting.
The meeting, held at the Ministry in Singha Durbar, focused on mutual interests, bilateral relations, and the mobilization of development aid, particularly in technical and vocational education, it is learnt.
Switzerland has been a longstanding development partner, supporting initiatives such as the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) and three key projects funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Co-Operation (SDC).
Minister Pokharel expressed gratitude for Switzerland’s support and highlighted the ongoing drafting of the CTEVT Act, which aims to modernize technical education in Nepal. He emphasized the importance of continuing Swiss assistance in this area and suggested potential future cooperation in digitization and inclusive education.
The Minister also mentioned the government’s initiative to establish autism schools across all provinces and the effective ‘Book Free Friday’ programme, which aims to promote employment-oriented education from an early age.
Ambassador Meuwly reaffirmed Switzerland’s commitment to supporting Nepal’s educational initiatives and indicated plans to enhance the effectiveness of the current projects.
The ambassador expressed readiness to provide support aligning with the Nepal Government’s educational strategies, ensuring continued collaboration in the sector.(RSS)
