NAY PYI TAW, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar and Nepal issued a joint statement Sunday on the occasion of the state visit of Nepali President Bidya Devi Bhandari, underlining that the first visit to Myanmar by a head of state of Nepal in the past nearly four decades reinforces the bond of friendship and the tradition of high-level interaction between leaders of the two countries. "It is also a historic, important milestone in the bilateral relations reflecting the hallmark of the close and friendly ties between the two countries," the statement said. Myanmar reaffirmed in the statement its readiness to render support for the success of Nepali government's "Visit Nepal Year 2020" and for the national objective of "Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali." Both sides agreed to mark the 60th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2020 by jointly hosting a series of events in both countries. The two sides reiterated the commitments to working closely not only in the bilateral context but also in regional and multilateral fora, including the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) and the United Nations, the statement added. During Bhandari's visit in Myanmar, Myanmar and Nepal signed two memorandums of understanding (MoU) on cooperation in the sectors of culture and tourism. Bhandari met with her Myanmar counterpart U Win Myint and State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi separately and held discussions with them on bilateral, regional and multilateral issues of common interest as well as bilateral cooperation in the areas of trade, tourism, investment, transportation, industry and culture. Bhandari arrived here on Wednesday on a state visit to Myanmar reciprocally at the invitation of her Myanmar counterpart U Win Myint in exchange for the one to Kathmandu by the latter in August 2018.
