Three held with tiger hide

Chitwan, Sept 25 : The Chitwan Police has arrested three people with tiger hide.

Those arrested are Chiranjibi Sen Thakuri aka Dipak, 43, of Butwal sub-metropolis-7, Chum Bahadur Rana, 33, of Sahalkot, Nisdi rural municipality-2, and Him Sangbo Gauchan, 26, of Dhorpatan municipality-9, Baglung.

According to District Police Office Chitwan’s Spokesperson Deputy Superintendent of Police Yek Narayan Koirala, the group was apprehended from Pulchowk of Bhagalpur metropolis-1 at 7:00 pm on Tuesday. Police confiscated three tiger hides and teeth from them.

They brought the contraband from Bobang Sherbang of Dhorpatan municipality-9 for smuggling, police preliminary investigation showed. The contraband was submitted to the District Division Forest Office, Chitwan, for necessary action.

The sale of the organs of engendered animals and those on the verge of extinction is punishable by the laws as The National Park and Wildlife Conservation Act- 1973 and the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) have banned it.

One is liable for five to fifteen years in jail or a fine of Rs 500 thousand to one million or both if found guilty.
