Kathmandu, Nov 9: The Tokyo Saptaha Mahayagya, a week-long religious ceremony, has begun in Tokyo of Japan, for raising fund for the construction of the ‘Integrated Nepali House: Multi-Cultural Centre’ there.
The Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), Japan along with various organisations of Nepali diaspora has organized the programme which kicked off on Saturday.
The week-long grand ritual that began in Shinjuku, Tokyo features Pandit Dinabandhu Pokharel and Buddhist guru Tulku Sonam Garwang Rinpoche who will be narrating the stories and legends from the scriptures.
Subash Lamichhane, President of NRNA Japan, informed that the Saptah Mahayagya was organised to strengthen unity, fraternity, and mutual relations among Nepalis in Japan and to promote spiritual reflection among the new generation.
He stated that although the goal of the Saptah Mahayagya was collection of donations for building the Integrated Nepali House, the purpose was to engage people in virtuous deeds by fostering harmony, peace, and positive feelings among Nepalis.
Nirvana Niure, former president of NRNA Japan, stated that the Mahayagya was organised with the aim of collecting funds for the construction of a building on the land already purchased in Chiba Prefecture, Tokyo, for the establishment of an Integrated Nepali House and multi-cultural centre in Japan.
The organisers believe that the Mahayagya will be an important step in promoting Nepali art and culture in Japan and in passing on, to some extent, Eastern philosophical traditions to the Nepalis diaspora in Japan.
