Vice President Pun urges young Nepali scientists abroad to return Nepal

Kathmandu, Oct 21 : Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun has appealed the young Nepali scientists who were working or studying abroad to return to their home country.

Inaugurating the three-day International youth Scientists Summit here today, VP Pun argued that the youth scientists should serve the country for its development and prosperity.

Pun said, “The contribution of youth scientists in increasing economic productivity and uplifting the people’s lives is incomparable. Technologies should be introduced to every home and machines should replace manual labour in every house. It is more meaningful to work in own land than toiling offshore.”

The Vice President pressed for the need to link science, technology and innovations with the lives of people.

On the occasion, a message sent by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli was read out. In the message PM has expressed his confidence that this event would further encourage young scientists and researchers.

Likewise, Minister for Education, Science and Technology Girirajmani Pokharel shared that young scientists working abroad would be encouraged to return home and their talent would be recognized.

He argued that without ICT, no country could achieve economic prosperity.

Similarly, Minister for Youth and Sports Jagat Bahadur Bishwakarma said that the incumbent government was effortful to ensure good-governance, development and prosperity in the country as well as to give happiness to every Nepali citizens.

Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST)’s Vice Chancellor Sunil Babu Shrestha urged the government to consider allocating more budget for the research and studies in the science and technology sector.

Youth Council’s Vice President Madhav Dhungel informed that National Youth Innovation Centre was going to be established in Province No 1 initially and it would be expanded to all seven provinces.

Young scientists from 20 countries are participating in the Summit including India, China and Japan. The event will see 18 paper presentations on various six rounds.

Discussions will be held on the issues as innovation for prosperity, institutional reforms, investment in science, science and technology for safety, and science diplomacy, among others.
