We could not raise hope, sorry: Home Minister Lamichhane

Rabi Lamichhane

Kathmandu: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Rabi Lamichhane has said that the situation of a citizen’s self-immolation is the result of frustration and pain since yesterday.

After the death of Prem Prasad Acharya, who attempted self-immolation in front of the Parliament building on Tuesday, Home Minister Lamichhane has said that it is our fault that even the arrival of new parties could not instill enthusiasm and hope.

Home Minister Lamichhane said, “I feel sad that even the arrival of newcomers like us could not add enthusiasm to you, could not instill hope. The decision of self-immolation could not be changed. Prem Acharya ji, we could not raise hope in you as a new political party and leader. Please forgive us.”

Minister Lamichhane has shared a facebook status:

“What is left now to describe the circumstances in which a citizen should commit self-immolation? Due to similar circumstances, we have joined the politics yesterday and today we are joining the government through peaceful rebellion.

I know, the decision of self-immolation is the result of frustration and pain from yesterday. I am saddened that even the arrival of newcomers like us could not add enthusiasm, could not instill hope, could not change the decision of self-immolation.

May your soul rest in peace, may the family find strength to bear this pain.”
