Kathmandu, May 30: CPN (Unified Socialist) senior leader and former Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal has appreciated the upcoming fiscal year’s budget saying that it has created a ray of home among the citizens.
“This time, the budget has come up with priority to land reforms, agriculture revolution, cooperative, industrialization, education and health care sectors,” former PM Khanal said.
“The budget has unveiled projects to eradicate poverty, create employment and control the exodus of youths,” Khanal said. “It has something new and has spread positive and hopeful messages. As we are primarily for political stability and prosperity, implementation of such good programmes of the budget is yet to see,” Khanal viewed.
Asked about rumours on split in his party and shift in the alliance, Khanal said possibilities of changes in the ruling alliance in the hung parliament take place quite often but the current coalition has a long tenure to go. “Debates are taking place in our party too; they continue to remain. But, we have a firm support to this government,” Khanal said.
Likewise, he argued that the issues raised in the party’s internal discussions should not be brought to the public debate. “Our party could have made claim for premiership. Something could have been discussed internally. Such issues should be left for the level of political homework. The main thing is good-governance and political stability in the country. We are in this favour. To ensure political stability in the country, the political leadership should mobilize its mechanism being united for the country’s development and transformation,” according to Khanal.
Khanal mentioned that the government cannot ensure delivery if it failed to create a convincing psychology among the citizens for the nation’s stability and a certain direction.
Talking about the preparation of party’s general convention, leader Khanal said party’s General Convention is scheduled to take from June 30-July 4 in Kathmandu which would forward a process of socialist revolution and transformation as it is the era of socialist revolution and transformation.
He further said the responsibility of taking the socialism-related programmes is on the shoulder of the General Convention, adding that socialism-related programmes would guide the party’s course of action, policy, principle, strategy and a path of the revolution and transformation.
Also the former Prime Minister, Khanal stressed that it has been around three years of the formation of the CPN (US) and the party would move ahead by reviewing the positive and negative comments received during the period, stating that party’s path to be adopted as per national and international contexts, course of action, policy, principle and programme would be passed from the general convention.
Similarly, responding to a query about policy-level dispute in reports to be presented in the General Convention, he explained that they have been thinking about making the party united and transformed and revolutionary as much as possible.
“We will raise Nepal’s communist movement from a new ground. The party will involve bringing all leftists together on the basis of purposeful unity even if all communist parties cannot be united. The General Convention should draw the conclusion for this,” stressed leader Khanal.
When asked whether he intends to take the party leadership, he said he is ready to do any roles to be assigned by the party’s upcoming General Convention. “I am prepared to contribute to the party in any capacity.”
He also said that if there will be a competition for the party leadership in the upcoming Convention, it should not be considered otherwise. Competition is a democratic process.
Admitting a significant reform within the party was required, he said the existing structure of the party and working style will no longer lead us to a revolution.
Advising the party to adopt an effective ideologies and political mandate first and develop the organizational culture accordingly, the leader insisted on the need for a significant shift to its working style.
