Govt forms negotiation team to finalize USD 150 million loan from World Bank for bridges

Kathmandu, Feb 25: The government has promoted one officer to the rank of Major General and another to the rank of Brigadier General in the Nepal Army.

A Cabinet meeting held on Falgun 11 decided on these promotions. Additionally, the government has extended the tenure of one Major General, two Brigadier Generals, and one Lieutenant General.

Announcing the government’s decisions, Minister for Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung stated that the Cabinet has approved the foreign visits of secretaries from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, and the Ministry of Health and Population.

Furthermore, the government has appointed Sharad Ojha from Kanchanpur as the Chairman of the Nepal Insurance Authority.

Key Decisions of the Government:

  • Approval for Dr. Ramesh Prasad Singh, a member of the National Planning Commission, to participate in the High-Level 12th Regional 3R and Circular Economy Forum in Asia and the Pacific in Jaipur, India, from Falgun 19 to 21, 2081.
  • Approval for Dr. Jay Bahadur Tandon, a member of the National Planning Commission, to participate in the Asia and the Pacific Regional Preparatory Meeting for the 2nd United Nations Food Systems Summit Stocktaking Moment (UNFSS±4) in Bangkok, Thailand, from Falgun 19 to 21, 2081.
  • Approval for Vice Chairman of the National Planning Commission, Prof. Dr. Shivaraj Adhikari, to attend the Harvard Ministerial Leadership Forum at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA, from Baisakh 14 to 17, 2082.
  • Approval for the Ministry of Finance to arrange payments for obligations related to projects and programs included in the approved budget and programs of FY 2080/81 but not yet disbursed.
  • Formation of a negotiation team to finalize the financial agreement and program documents for a concessional loan of $150 million under the third phase of the Bridges Improvement and Maintenance Program from the International Development Association of the World Bank Group.
  • Approval for the Minister of Water Supply to participate in a memorandum signing ceremony on water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) sector development in India from Falgun 18 to 22, 2081.
  • Approval to provide relief equivalent to death compensation to the families of individuals missing due to monsoon-related disasters since Baisakh 1, 2080, if they remain untraceable for at least ten days.
  • Approval of the first amendment order for land registration in Wards 4 and 5 of Gauradaha Municipality, Jhapa.
  • Approval for Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Devendra Dahal, to attend the Annual Transforming Transportation Conference in Washington, D.C., USA, on Falgun 27 and 28, 2081.
  • Approval for Minister for Forests and Environment, Ain Bahadur Shahi Thakuri, to attend the World Sustainable Development Summit (WSDS) in New Delhi, India, from Falgun 21 to 23, 2081.
  • Approval for the Pathari Shanishchare Municipality in Morang to use forest land in Ward 10 for constructing its administrative building.
  • Authorization for the Indigenous Nationalities Commission to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Strengthening Friendly Cooperation with the National Ethnic Affairs Commission (NEAC) of the People’s Republic of China.
