Rautahat, July 15: A 28-year-old man sustained serious burn injuries after attempting self-immolation in Garuda Municipality–9 of Rautahat district on Wednesday morning. The victim has been identified as Gautam Kumar Sahani, a resident of Garuda Municipality–9.
According to Ward Chairperson Rajesh Sahani, Gautam Kumar, who had reportedly been suffering from depression, poured petrol from his own motorcycle over his body and attempted to set himself on fire early in the morning.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Basanta Gautam, spokesperson for the District Police Office, Rautahat, said the victim sustained burns to approximately 35 percent of his body below the neck.
He was initially taken to Better Nepal Hospital in Garuda by family members, where he received primary treatment before being referred to the Kirtipur Burn Hospital in Kathmandu for specialized medical care.
Police said preliminary investigations indicate that the victim had been suffering from a mental health condition. Further investigation into the incident is ongoing. According to the Area Police Office, Garuda, Gautam Kumar runs a small eatery near Jhajh Bridge in Garuda Bazaar with his wife and their three sons. #nepal
