Kathmandu, July 7: At least 14 people have died in floods, landslides and drownings that have occurred since Friday night.
Three other people have gone missing due to disasters such as floods and landslides. Central Police Spokesperson Dan Bahadur Karki informed that more than 18 people were injured.
According to him, one person died in Kathmandu, three in Syangja, two in Parbat, one in Udayapur, two in Kavrepalanchok, one in Palpa, three in Tanahun and one in Dang due to floods, landslides.
Manoj BK of Gorkha Lakhan Thapa Rural Municipality-6 was buried in a landslide in Nagarjun Municipality-3, Kathmandu. Raj Rai of Rautamai Rural Municipality-5 of Udayapur, Jalmaya Rujalamagar and Setimaya Rujal of Roshi Rural Municipality-11 of Kavrepalanchok died in the landslide.
Similarly, police said that Hira Nepali, Anisha Bastola, Shyam Bhandari, resident of Shuklagandaki Municipality-7 of Tanahun, Guishwari Sharma Marasini, Madhav Sharma, Harimaya Sharma resident of Syangdi Rural Municipality-6 died in the landslide. Jhalak Prasad Sharma and Tulasi Prasad Sharma of Phalebas Municipality-1 Karkineta in Parbat, Rima Saraha Ranamagar of Mathagadhi Rural Municipality-6 in Palpa and Maniam Choudhary of Bagrapur in Lamahi Municipality-8 of Dang also died in the landslide, according to police.
Jangmu Sherpa of Dolakha Gourishankar Rural Municipality-9, Rajkumar Yadav of Rajpur Rural Municipality-2, Dang and Khemkumari Malla of Syangja Bhirkot Municipality-5 Jamire are among those who disappeared due to floods and landslides. So far, 18 people have been injured in Tanahun, one in Gulmi, two in Okhaldhunga, three in Kathmandu, one in Chitwan and six in Syangja.
The police said that due to the heavy rains, life has been affected across the country and the water level in major rivers including Koshi, Narayani is high. Even today, the police continue to patrol and monitor the banks of rivers and streams in Kathmandu Valley. Central Police Spokesperson Karki said that the water level in the river in the valley has increased due to incessant rain.
Security personnel from all three security agencies have been mobilized in the affected areas with high alertness, according to the Police Headquarters.
