KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development has claimed that the current shortage of fertilizer will be resolved by mid-July.
In a statement, the ministry said efforts were being made to supply manure through various processes. The ministry claims that efforts are being made to procure chemical fertilizer from the initiative taken by the Agricultural Input Company, Salt Trading Corporation and G-to-G (Government to Government).
“By mid-July, a total of 192,000 metric tons of fertilizer will arrive,” the ministry said in a statement.
Out of the supply, 20,000 metric tons of DAP and 22,000 metric tons of urea were purchased by Salt Trading. The ministry said that 30,000 metric tonnes of urea and 20,000 metric tonnes of DAP will enter Nepal from the second week of July.
In the last week of July, 50,000 metric tonnes of urea and 30,000 metric tonnes of DAP will also arrive under G-to-G with India, according to a statement issued by Ministry spokesperson Prakash Kumar Sanjel.
The ministry also said that the contractor responsible for the supply of chemical fertilizer did not supply 222,000 metric tons of manure on time due to the rising international prices.
