KATHMANDU: The 24 Human rights organizations, including Accountibility Watch Committee, have written a letter to the organizers requesting the organizers not to allow Nepal’s Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota to attend the meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Madrid, Spain.
Speaker Sapkota is also invited to the 143rd meeting of the IPU to be held in Madrid, Spain from November 26 to 30. However, the organizations have demanded the organizers to withdraw the invitation given to Sapkota.
Stating that the police investigation into the murder of a person during the armed conflict was still ongoing, the Accountability Monitoring Committee called on the Spanish government to ban Sapkota from entering the country and to launch an investigation into international crime under international jurisdiction.
Speaker Sapkota is accused of killing Arjun Bahadur Lama of Kavre in April 2005. Charan Prasai, coordinator of the AWC, has also written a letter to the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the Foreign Minister of Spain and the Spanish Embassy in Delhi overseeing Nepal.
