Kathmandu, Oct 9: A team of 29 climbers, including Sherpas, scaled Shishapangma (8,027m), the world’s 14th highest peak on October 9 with many of them setting records. Most of them reached atop the mountain at 6 am (China time), said Thaneswar Guragai, General Manager of Seven Summit Treks.
This remarkable achievement marks a significant milestone for 12 climbers, who have completed the 14 Peaks challenge, entering the exclusive 8000ers club of mountaineers who have climbed the world’s highest peaks over 8000m.
Among the summiteers, Nepali climber Nima Rinji Sherpa became the youngest person to summit all 14 of the world’s highest peaks over 8000m at 18 years and 5 months old. Similarly, Shehroze Kashif holds the distinction of becoming youngest Pakistani to climb all 14 peaks while Naoko Watanabe became the first Japanese female person to scale all 14 peaks over 8000m.
Alasdair Scot Mckenzie holds the record for the youngest European to climb all 14 of the world’s highest peaks over 8000m.
Moreover, Alina Pekova and Ko-Erh Tseng became the first Russian and Taiwanese persons respectively to climb all 14 peaks. Adrian Laza set a record for the first Romanian to climb all 14 peaks over 8000m. Others who have finished the 14×8000’er challenge included Dorota Lidia Samocko, Adriana Brownlee Pinon (No O2), Mario Vielmo (No O2), Pasang Nurbu Sherpa, and Mingtemba Sherpa.
The expedition was organised by Seven Summit Treks, a leading Nepal-based expedition operator, under the leadership of renowned climber Chhang Dawa Sherpa. Chhang Dawa has successfully summited all 14 peaks exceeding 8,000m, and his guidance has brought success to expeditions across Nepal, China, and Pakistan.
