Kathmandu, Aug 5: The education department of Kathmandu Metropolitan City has completed the entrance exam for the scholarship to be provided for class 11 students. A total of 6,017 students filled the scholarship form in which 3,913 were boys and 2,104 girls. Among the applicants, 5,172 students participated in the examination, including 3,400 male students and 1,772 female students. According to KMC, 845 applicants didn’t participate in the exam.
Among the applicants, 4,155 were for science stream. Of these, 3,713 took the exam. Out of 1,484 management subject applicants, 1180 took the exam. The Department of Education has informed that 176 out of 245 technical subject applicants, 69 out of 89 law subject applicants, 16 out of 18 humanities subjects applicants and 18 out of 26 education subjects applicants have participated in the examination.
The examination was conducted in 15 centers. Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol visited various schools to monitor the examination.
Based on the syllabus of class 10, the objective test (Optical Mark Recognition – OMR) was conducted with 30/30 questions from compulsory mathematics, science, English and 10 questions from general knowledge. Candidates must score at least 40 marks to pass. The highest marks will be taken as the basis while deciding the order of merit. Answers will be tested through online matching method without negative marking for wrong answers.
According to the officials of the education department, the answer sheets have been collected from the centers.
During the distribution of scholarships, 40% will be given to students who have studied in public schools, 5% to students who have studied on scholarships from institutional schools, 9% to all students who have permanent residence within the Kathmandu Metropolitan City, 1% to students who have studied in schools in the same area while living in landfill side affected areas. The remaining 45 percent of the seats will be considered as 100 percent and applied to the students who have studied in public schools, 33% will be provided to female students, 15% to indigenous/janajati, 12% to Madhesi, and 17% to Khas Arya.
Likewise, 9% scholarship will be given to Dalits, 2% to Muslims, 4% to Tharu, 2% to people with disabilities, 4% to people from backward areas, 2% to families of martyrs and missing citizens and families of conflict victims. Students residing permanently in Achham, Kalikot, Jajarkot, Jumla, Dolpa, Bajhang, Bajura, Mugu and Humla districts will be considered as persons from backward areas.
This is the first time the KMC has been carrying out the open competition for scholarship. The students will be sent to different public and private institutions in KMC area.
The Kathmandu Metropolitan City has already collected the scholarship seats from different institutions.
