DAMAULI: Approximately 663 houses at Patan in Byas Municipality-5 in the district have been exposed to risks of being swept away by local flooded Madi river.

The river has eroded the riverbanks and started advancing towards the settlements, said local people.

Physical infrastructures belonging to a dozen organisations have also been at risk of flooding. As a result, the local people often spent sleepless nights.

“We do not know when the flooded river enters and submerges the village. We are in constant fear,” said a local resident.

The municipality mayor Baikuntha Neupane has assured of controlling the river, said Tej Bahadur Nepali, secretary of the village development organisation.
