Electric vehicle imports through Birgunj Rs 2.98 billion



Birgunj, April 28: Electric vehicle (EV) imports through the Birgunj border point have reached Rs 2.98 billion in the first nine months of the current fiscal year 2025/26.

According to the Birgunj Customs Office, this represents a 102% increase compared to the same period last fiscal year, with imports rising by Rs 150 million. During the same period last year, EV imports stood at Rs 1.48 billion.

Customs Information Officer Uday Singh Bista said EV imports have effectively doubled this fiscal year.

In the first nine months of the current fiscal year, 493 electric jeeps, cars, and vans worth Rs 1.46 billion were imported. In the same period last year, 172 units worth Rs 480 million were imported.

Similarly, 7,398 electric motorcycles worth Rs 960 million were imported this year, compared to 4,227 units worth Rs 550 million in the previous year.

In addition, 4,606 electric three-wheelers worth Rs 530 million were imported in the review period, up from 3,613 units worth Rs 450 million in the same period last year. The data shows a sharp rise in EV imports across all categories, reflecting growing demand for electric mobility in Nepal. #Nepal
