Kathmandu, May 31: US Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy Sarah Rogers arrived in Kathmandu on Saturday evening from New Delhi.
Rogers is the senior-most American diplomat to visit Nepal since the government led by Balendra (Balen) Shah took office, and the third senior US official to visit the country since the government was formed on March 27.
She is travelling to India, Nepal, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan from May 27 to June 10, according to a brief announcement by the State Department. Washington has sent a string of senior officials to Kathmandu since the Balen Shah government took office in March.
According to reports, she will be holding meeting with Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle and Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal, among others. It’s still not clear whether she will be meeting with Prime Minister Balen Shah.
Meanwhile, US Embassy in Kathmandu has shared that, in Nepal, Under Secretary Rogers will deliver the opening keynote address at Ascent Summit 2026 and meet with senior government officials, American Chamber of Commerce members, and U.S. program alumni, where she will advocate for freedom of expression and digital freedom as foundations for open societies and economic prosperity.
