Janakpur, July 28: Victims of loan sharking staged a protest outside the main entrance of the Janakpur High Court on Monday, demanding strict legal action against individuals involved in usurious lending practices.
Carrying placards with various slogans and demands, the protesters said they had been seeking justice for years but alleged that many accused loan sharks had continued to evade prosecution due to political and administrative protection.
The demonstrators called on both the government and the judiciary to ensure speedy justice, expedite hearings on loan sharking cases, and bring those responsible to justice without further delay. They claimed that predatory lending had forced many families to lose their homes, land and other property, pushing victims into severe financial hardship. Some victims, they said, had even been driven to take their own lives.
The protesters insisted that those involved in loan sharking should not be granted impunity under any circumstances. They also demanded that authorities facilitate the return of properties seized through usurious lending practices and impose stringent punishment on those found guilty.
Participants chanted slogans outside the court premises during the demonstration. Although the protest remained peaceful, security around the Janakpur High Court was tightened to prevent any untoward incidents. #nepal
