Nepali football team wins Three Nations Cup, sets history

KATHMANDU: Nepal’s senior football team has won the Three Nations Cup title, breaking the 18-month-long drought.

Nepal defeated Bangladesh 2-1 in the final held at Dasharath Stadium on Monday to become the champion. Sanjog Rai and Bishal Rai scored for Nepal. Sanjog assisted for Bishal’s goal.

In the group stage, Nepal played a goalless draw with Kyrgyzstan’s Olympic team and Bangladesh. Lastly, Nepal won against Chinese Taipei in the World Cup qualifiers in September 2019.

Champion Nepal received a prize of USD 5,000 while Bangladesh settled for USD 3,000. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli was also present at the Dasharath Stadium to watch the final match.

The Dasharath Stadium was full of Nepali football fans. According to ANFA, thousands were present in the stadium, while live broadcast was available in the television, YouTube and Facebook pages.
