Kathmandu, April 1: The government is set to form a high-level commission for resolving the woes of usury survivors.
The government is to form the commission in accordance with the Inquiry Commission Act, 2026. According to the five-point agreement reached between the government and usury victim committee at the home ministry on Saturday, the next cabinet meeting would form the commission.
Both the sides reached an agreement to recommend the Nepal government to form a probe commission in an attempt to address the problems faced by the victims. The illegal money lenders have been found charging high interest rates to the illiterate, poor and economically weaker section, preparing fake document of financial transactions, capturing the wealth of lenders and exploiting the victims in different pretexts.
Likewise, a committee would be formed under the coordination of Chief District Officer to routinely hear and redress the complaints of loan sharks’ victims. It would also include the representation of district-based Nepal Police, government attorney, chiefs of land revenue and survey office, bank and financial institutions and loan sharks’ victims.
Recommendation would be made to the government for the formation of the district-level coordination committee. The committee would collect complaints and grievances from the victims and also aid to gather evidences. Likewise, it would also facilitate for legal aid and awareness.
On behalf of the government talks team, joint secretary Pradeep Kumar Koirala, deputy secretaries Junga Bahadur Dangi, Umakanta Adhikari and Dilkumar Tamang and Superintendent of Police Dinesh Raj Mainali signed the agreement.
Likewise, Manoj Paswan, Shyam Kumar Chaudhary, Sangharsha Dahal, Ramrijhan Yadav and Chhedilal Pasman signed the agreement on behalf of the struggle committee.
Earlier today, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ pledged to take action against loan sharks through rapid action force. In a meet with the victims, PM Dahal made the promise to permanently resolve the problems of the victims.RSS
