Four cases of cholera virus confirmed in Lalitpur

Kathmandu, July 25: Cholera outbreak has been confirmed in four persons in Lalitpur district. The cholera virus was detected in the tests carried out at the National Public Health Laboratory, according to Dr Mukesh Poudel of the Epidemiology and Infectious Diseases Control Division of the Department of Health Services.

All four persons were residing in a correction centre in Godawari Municipality-14, Lalitpur. Of them, two have fled from the hospital, while one is receiving treatment at Shukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital and the next one at the Academy of Patan Health Sciences.

The youths had developed the symptoms of diarrhoea before being tested for cholera.

Dr Poudel said that the correction centre where the youth were residing had a polluted well for water usage. “The water from the well had faeces. Cholera was spread from the same well water,” he added.

He said that chances of cholera being transferred to other people from those fleeing patients are unlikely as they had received preliminary treatment against cholera. #cholera #nepal #kathmandu
