Kathmandu, Dec 15: Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has extended best wishes on the occasion of the Kirat community’s Udhauli Parba festival, the Yomari Punhi (the Jyapu Day) of the Jyapu community and the Dhanya Purnima festival today.
The NC president on his and the party’s behalf wished for the good health, long life and continued progress of all the Nepalis sisters and brothers within the country and abroad observing these festivals today.
In his message of best wishes, he said various linguistic, religious, caste and racial communities residing in Nepal have their own distinct culture and tradition, and also respecting each others’ religion, language, culture and customs.
Stating that these festivals have been fostering harmony and goodwill in the Nepali society, the NC President wished that may these festivals inspire one and all to further promote peace, goodwill and prosperity in the nation.
Similarly, CPN (Unified Socialist) Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal has extended best wishes on the occasion of these festivals.
In a message of best wishes today, he stated that the unique culture and tradition of various indigenous nationalities and communities in the nation have contributed to enhancing social harmony and thereby making the national unity stronger.
According to him, the various cultural festivals with unique characteristics also contributed towards introducing the Nepali society to the world.
He urged the communities concerned to preserve their unique festivals, culture and traditions. Leader Nepal viewed that the festivals also helped the nation move forward on the path of economic development by fostering social unity and mutual respect.
Likewise, former Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal has also extended festival best wishes, saying these festivals will motivate all to promote mutual respect, peace and harmony.
He has also stressed on the need of establishing equality in the Nepali society with its religious diversity.
Cultural festivals further strengthen national unity: Chair Dahal
National Assembly Chairperson Narayan Prasad Dahal has expressed belief that cultural festivals of Nepal would further strengthen mutual harmony, social relation and national unity among the Nepali people.
In a message of best wishes on the occasion of Udhauli and Yomari Punhi festivals, Chair Dahal mentioned that national unity within diversity is the identity of us being Nepalese.
Wishing for the happiness, peace, prosperity and long-life to all Nepali brothers and sisters living home and abroad on the occasion of Udhauli festival of Kirant community and Yomari Punhi of Newar community, he shared that these festivals are the symbol of mutual harmony, social tolerance, cultural promotion and love for nature.
Kirant community celebrates Udhauli festival in a special manner by offering new-harvest paddy to God, asking permission to eat it and remembering their ancestors.
Similarly, Newar community celebrates Yomari Punhi by making delicious Yomari from the flour of new-harvest paddy.
