Five-day free orthopaedic surgical camp begins in Phidim

Panchthar, March 18: A five-day free orthopaedic surgical camp specializing in orthopedic and neurological diseases has begun today in Phidim. The camp is being organized in collaboration with the Nepal Disabled Association – Nepal Orthopedic Hospital Jorpati, Rotary Club of Lalitpur, a team led by Dr Dietmar Mauer from Family and Friends Switzerland, Phidim Municipality, and Panchthar District Hospital.

The free orthopaedic surgical camp, organized by Panchthar District Hospital, was inaugurated by the Chief of the District Coordination Committee, Panchthar, Ramraj Angdembe.

According to Dr Kailash Kumar Bhandari, Medical Director of Nepal Orthopedic Hospital, the camp provides free health check-ups, medication distribution, and orthopedic and neurological surgeries. Patients suffering from bone and joint-related problems will receive treatment, and surgical procedures will be performed if necessary.

Dr Bhandari mentioned that Nepal Orthopedic Hospital has been organizing such health camps through coordination and partnerships with various organizations. The camp is primarily targeted at underprivileged patients who lack access to quality healthcare services due to financial constraints.

Recalling a similar orthopedic and neurological health camp conducted in Phidim 12 years ago, Dr Bhandari expressed the hospital’s commitment to expanding such camps nationwide based on available resources.

During the event, it was also announced that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Rotary Club of Lalitpur, Nepal Orthopedic Hospital, and Dr Dietmar Mauer’s team from Switzerland to provide orthopedic health services to remote and underprivileged communities in Nepal over the next five years.

Dr Mauer, who has been actively supporting Nepal’s healthcare sector, shared that he was inspired to help after witnessing financially disadvantaged patients struggling to afford treatment during his visits to the Himalayan region.

Phidim Municipality Mayor Mitra Prasad Kafle, who has been overseeing the local management of the camp, stated that the initiative would be highly beneficial for patients unable to afford surgeries, such as those requiring the removal of steel implants or corrective procedures for limb deformities. He also noted that a similar orthopedic camp was organized two years ago by Phidim Municipality, as the district lacks specialist medical services. These health camps serve as an alternative to provide specialized treatment to local residents. #health #Orthopedic #hospital #nepal
